# How to create a category

Categories group your items: drinks, dishes, desserts… On the sales screen, they help you find an item in two taps. They also let you track your sales by category.

|| Only the title is required. The illustration and the items are optional, and you can change them later.

## Step 1: Open your categories

1. Tap the menu icon **☰** at the top left.
2. Tap **Items**.

Then open the **Categories** tab and tap the **+** button at the bottom right.

## Step 2: Enter a title

Type the name of the category in the **Title** field. This is the name shown on the sales screen.

## Step 3: Choose an illustration

Tunder gives each new category a random color. To change it, tap the circle at the top of the form, then choose one option:

* **Take photo**: take a picture with your device's camera.
* **Choose from library**: pick a picture from your photos.
* **Add illustration**: pick a color or an icon from the Tunder library.

Icons are sorted by theme. Here, an ice cream cone from the Pastry theme.

## Step 4: Add items

1. Tap the **Items** field.
2. Check the items you want in this category.
3. Tap **OK**.

The **+** button lets you create a new item without leaving this screen.

|| An item can only belong to one category. If you check an item that is already in another category, it moves to this one.

The **Items** field then shows how many items you selected.

## Step 5: Save the category

Tap **OK** at the top right. The category appears in your list.

On the sales screen, open the **Categories** tab: tap a category to see its items.

## Create a category from an item's form

You can also create a category while creating an item. In the **Category** field of the form, tap **+**: the new category is selected for the item right away.

## Edit or delete a category

In **Items** > **Categories**, tap the category, make your changes and tap **OK**.

To delete it, tap **Delete**, then tap it again to confirm.

|| Deleting a category does not delete its items: they stay in your catalog.
